Synopsis:
Japan in the future has a massive over-population problem. Scientists have traced the root of this problem to one particular individual, Junta Monamari. According to their records, Junta was a "Mega-Playboy" who had sired children with over a hundred women. Each one of his sons had inherited the Mega-Playboy gene too, so the problem grew exponentially from thereon. Enter Karin Aoi, a "DNA Operator". Karin is sent back to the past with a mission: to alter Junta's DNA and prevent him from ever becoming the Mega-Playboy, thereby eliminating the world's overpopulation problem. Junta's DNA can only be altered by shooting him with a special bullet called DCM which contains the chemical for suppressing the Mega-Playboy DNA. In return, Karin gets a vast sum of money... enough to make all her dreams come true. Will Junta become the playboy he is destined to be, or will his better self prevail? But Karin is falling for the real Junta too... and what of the sweet and kindly Ami who has secretly loved Junta all her life? What will happen to future Japan?

Review:
As we meet Junta for the for the time, we can see that he is just an "ordinary boy" (you know the obligatory ordinary boy you see at the beginning of most anime). In fact, he is kind of sub-ordinary! You see, he has this strange condition that makes him feel queasy when he is aroused. Basically he vomits buckets when he sees a bit of exposed female flesh, or when a girl comes on to him. Hence, Junta is something of a laughingstock for girls. The exception to this rule is his best friend Ami Kurimoto who has known him since childhood.

Now Junta has no idea that he is destined to become the Mega-Playboy responsible for the Japan's future overpopulation. At first, the DNA Operator Karin is taken aback at how unattractive and uncharismatic Junta is. Nevertheless, after a brief chat with him she shoots him with the DCM bullet. Unfortunately it's the wrong bullet and instead of suppressing his dormant Mega-Playboy DNA, its development is triggered and accelerated! Junta is extremely confused by all this, all he knows is that he's head over heels for the beautiful and mysterious Karin. After being shot, his Mega-Playboy alter-ego would surface every now and then. In this mode, girls find him irresistible, Karin included. The only exception is Ami, who likes Junta as he is and hates the Mega-Playboy persona. Much hilarity, adventure, surprises, and heartbreaks ensue thereafter.

DNA is a fairly short series with 15 episodes, some of which are fairly self-contained but always a continuation of the main story. The manga was written by Masakazu Katsura, who is responsible for "Video Girl Ai", "Is", and other series. He is the best manga artist, in my opinion. There is a portrait-like quality to practically every frame in his manga creations and the characters are very realistic. The DNA manga spans a mere five volumes. Fortunately, the anime art is fairly faithful to his drawings. The characters look good and the girls are all pretty. This is truly one of the best anime series I have ever seen!

Miscellanies:
My only gripe is how in the world do these 16-year olds get into so many sexual situations? The series spans 5 DVDs.
